So, this past quarter on campus I decided to use one of my electives as an English major to take the Harry Potter literature course on campus…Cool, Right?!? …I Know, They actually offer a Harry Potter class!
The class was basically structured in the sense that we spend all quarter reading the seven books, discussions everyday, and then write papers, and blog posts. I took the class with some of my other amazing English friends, one of my sorority sisters and the AMAZING Professor Tamar Heller, who I have had as a teacher in the past, and she is lovely.
Well…needless to say, I had a blast and am sad it’s over.
But, I wanted to share on my blog 3 of my writings from the class because it was a joy to create them.
The first is a blog post I did at the end of the year, describing my Harry Potter experience: my love of the series and growing up with Harry, the excitement since I started reading when I was eleven, and specifically my experience of the last book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and the end of the series, being in college now.
The other two were parts of my midterm and final. We were told to write fan fiction!! The assignments were limitless and had no directions. The only guidelines were that we had to stay in the universe of Harry Potter and couldn’t change major plots or stories. We could just build upon what JK had already established within the series. How cool is that! As a person who loves creative writing this was an English majors dream!! I can’t say how many times I read through the series and had an “I wonder…” or “What if…” moment, questioning what happened to others characters, what was this person thinking, or what is their background-why are they the way they are…
So, I’ve decided to post them in three blogs here, in three parts, for your enjoyment!!
